We’d like to take a moment to show some love to our event staff, who worked tirelessly setting up, tidying, stocking - you name it!

Many of our event staff @ikeahfx were provided by Affirmative Ventures, a non-profit that provides housing and job training to individuals experiencing barriers to work. That means that our staff were gaining valuable employment experience at our pop-up! 🙌🏼🙌🏼

In addition to this, a portion of every single sale is given to Affirmative Ventures. If you’d like to support them even more, you can check out their thrift store, @venturethriftboutique , a social enterprise located in downtown Halifax!

Thank you SO MUCH to all of you who came out for By the Pound Thrift Pop Up and all of you who happened upon us while doing your shopping at IKEA!
The opportunity to set up a thrift shop in IKEA Halifax was such a dream come true. We had an incredible turnout over the weekend with just over 1000 guests who brought home over 1000 pounds of secondhand clothes!
Thank you so much to our hardworking crew including the team from our charity partner Affirmative Ventures.
The biggest thank you goes to IKEA for taking a chance on us and letting us try something so unique in the store. Our shared vision of diverting goods from landfill and championing a greener future were truly aligned - we loved every minute of this experience and we hope our thrifters did, too!!

DAY 2 YOU’LL SEE:
⭐️ A full room of clothes including a mega restock with fall/winter clothing
⭐️ Tote bags, treat and 15% off for the first 15 people in line
⭐️ From 1-4 PM, all clothes will be 50% off!
A few things to note:
- IKEA opens at 10am tomorrow so if there is a lineup in the morning, it will form outside
- The Macdonald Bridge is closed Sunday Aug 4
- Unfortunately, we have next to no PLUS clothing left. There are many reasons that plus clothing can be hard to find when thrifting, including the fact that because it can be hard to access in general, people tend to hold on to it longer instead of donating. It is important for us to offer clothing for all sizes and we will do our best to explore other ways to source in this category for future events.
We can’t wait to see you tomorrow!

Thanks to everyone who has come so far to our event at IKEA! 3 hours in, the lineup has finally cleared but you’ve already purchased what we would typically sell over a weekend!

Here’s what you need to know:
- You can find us at in the Community Room which is location at the top of the stairs to the right. It’s also accessible by escalator or elevator.
- The first 15 people in line will score 15% off their purchase with us, a sweet treat AND a reusable tote bag from IKEA!
- We accept both cash & cards for payment
- Our space is accessible for wheelchairs & strollers
- We will have most of our clothing hanging on racks this time, but you should still come prepared to dig! With no price tags and clothing being put out in broad categories, part of the adventure will involve hunting for treasure!
- There are no change rooms. The room will have a few mirrors, so if you’d like to try things on, wear an outfit that will allow you to try your items on over it!
- Masks will be available at the entrance at no cost
- We invite you to bring your own reusable bags to shop with but we also have quite a few available
- All attendees can enjoy 15% off at IKEA’s AS IS section all weekend long!

A- If you wish to bring your gently-loved clothing, shoes and accessories to donate, you’ll receive a 20% off coupon for Venture Thrift Boutique in Halifax, a thrift store social enterprise run by our partner for this event, Affirmative Ventures.

Q2- Where are you getting the clothes? 🛍️
A- We purchase our clothing in bulk from Canadian charities.

Q3- How will it work? ⁉️
A- Clothing will be sorted on racks and tables by category. You’ll definitely need to dig a little- it’s all part of the fun!

Q4- What can I expect to find? 🔎
A- We will have clothing, shoes and accessories for all genders sized XS-PLUS but cannot guarantee how much you’ll find in each category You’re SURE to find some exciting pieces! For this event, we will have no kids clothing.

Q5- Will any clothing be priced? 🏷️
A- NO! We want to keep things simple for everyone. ALL clothing is $6.99 per pound, even if it is a grail find or a major label. You might find anything!

Q6- What do clothes even weigh? ⚖️

Q7- Will you be restocking? ⏰
A- We will do general restocking every 1-2 hours throughout the event until we run out of stock!

A- There is a TON of free parking at IKEA! IKEA is also accessible by taking the #72 bus to Cutler Avenue.

A- NO! We want to keep things simple for everyone. ALL clothing is 5.99 by weight, whether it’s a grail find or a major label. You might find anything! 🏆
